Excursions - from Olu Deniz Region

Pamukkale:

Pamukkale is one of the most fascinating places in the world, justly famous not only for the entrancing beauty of its unique formations but also for its historical remains. The calcium oxide rich waters flowing down have built up deposits of travertine on the plateau thus fully justifying both the sites ancient name of Hierapolis (Holy City) and its modern name Pamukkale meaning "cotton castle". A 2 day / 1 night excursion visiting Pamukkale and Ephesus is available.

Ephesus:

One of the highlights of any visit to Turkey – not only one of the most important cities of antiquity, but also one of the most spectacular natural sites in the world. Ephesus, is undoubtedly the best preserved ancient city in Turkey. Take a guided tour and walk the roads once used by the ancient Romans. The excursion will take in the stunning Celsus Library remains, The Marble Avenue and the largest outdoor theatre in Turkey (25,000 seat capacity), and the ancient site of the Temple of Artemis which was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. A 2 day / 1 night excursion visiting Ephesus and Pamukkale is available.

Saklikent Gorge & Ancient Ruins at Tlos:

Adventurous trekking amongst springs and rapids in the canyon of Saklikent, which rises over 1000ft. The gorge is one of the largest in Turkey where you can walk along the shallow mountain river into the gorge. Alternatively you can relax and have lunch on the wooden seating areas which sit above the flowing rivers. The excursion to Saklikent usually includes lunch and a short stop at the ancient ruins of Tlos.

Dalyan (Turtle Beach, Mud Baths and Caunos Tombs):

Sail along the Calbis river to the natural mud baths. After your mud bath you will take lunch at a riverside restaurant before meandering through the reed beds of the Dalyan Delta where the film "The African Queen" was filmed on route to Iztuzu Beach (known as Turtle Beach). Turtle Beach is one of the worlds few beaches where marine turtles come to nest overnight. Back on the boat you will pass the ancient rock tombs of Caunos set into the mountains.

There are many other activities closer to the resort that you can try whilst on holiday. These include a traditional Turkish Bath, a visit to the ancient deserted "ghost village" of Kayakoy, horse riding and mountain walks. There are also 2 waterparks nearby for a great family day out. There's kayaking and pedaloes on the lagoon at Olu Deniz, scuba diving and snorkelling, beach volleyball, water rafting, jet skiing and Jeep safari to name but a few.

For those of you wishing to try something a little more adventurous, there are many companies offering a tandem paragliding flight from the top of the Babadag mountain. It will take you about an hour to get to the top of the mountain in a Jeep or minibus with your instructor, who will then prepare you for the flight. You can be in the air for anything up to an hour as you descend 6000ft to the beach, with some of the most spectacular scenery below you. For an additional fee you can also get a short video of the flight down.

At the Marina in Fethiye and from the beach at Olu Deniz you are able to join one of the many boat trips that leaves each day. A variety of excursions are offered including a trip round the Islands in Fethiye harbour, a caves and coastline trip or even a day trip to the Greek Island of Rhodes.

Hisaronu holds it's Market each Monday whilst the much larger market in Fethiye is held each Tuesday. Here you can bargain for cheap goods including designer copies of handbags, jeans, shoes etc.
